(August 15, 2008) APEX, N.C. Fuentek, LLC (www.fuentek.com), has announced that Laura A. Schoppe, president of the firm, participated in the Defense, Intelligence and Security Industry Workforce Cluster Task Force for the Defense & Security Technology Accelerator (DSTA) (www.dstanc.org) on June 11. The goal of the task force was to discuss how universities can better prepare the workforce of tomorrow, specifically in the area of defense contracting in North Carolina. All task force participants had defense contracting or military backgrounds. Schoppe shared experience from her extensive work with Navy combat systems and missile intelligence, as well as Fuentek’s current work in economic development through technology transfer. DSTA is a thought leader in business acceleration for military business development in North Carolina, focusing on fostering collaborative efforts, leveraging regional strengths and building connections between the Fayetteville area, Research Triangle Park, Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University, the Ben Craig Center at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and other centers of innovation throughout the state. The organization creates opportunities for new technology formation and knowledge-based job creation in the Fayetteville/Cumberland County area, Raleigh and Charlotte. “I am pleased that I was able to participate on this task force for the Defense & Security Technology Accelerator,” said Schoppe. “The task force’s mission to help universities understand how to prepare students for work in defense contracting shows DSTA’s commitment to accelerating military business development throughout North Carolina.”
